Couple days ago a 50 foot limb broke out of a pecan tree next to the house. had to do some pulling to keep it from hitting the house. couldn’t get my truck back there to use the winch as it poured all night.

Sassafras has a natural wood preserving quality the oldtimers in WV would use it to make the head blocks for sawmills as it last for many many uears and doesnt rot. It and locust are similar in that quality . A large sassafras big enough to cut on a mill these days to make into those parts is rare . At least in my neck of the woods. My dads sawmill is still standing and those blocks are still there not rotted.

Yeah it was, woodpeckers missed out on that one, but those aren’t carpenter ants, you can tell as there’s no tiny beer cans to be seen anywhere
